According to several sources, Kevin is in "final negotiations" to star in the Disney and Mayhem Pictures' movie "McFarland" based on the true story of high school track and field coach, Jim White, who in the 1980s comes to the predominantly poor, Latino town of McFarland, California, just outside Bakersfield and creates a cross-country team that becomes a championship-winning dynasty. Niki Caro is directing from a script she wrote with Grant Thompson, which FilmOFilia's Nick Martin says is based on a 1997 Los Angeles Times piece entitled 'A Labor of Love for Boys of McFarland.' Mark Ciardi and Gordon Gray are producing for Mayhem, which has produced similar inspirational sports pictures such as "Miracle," "Invincible" and "Secretariat." Disney has been developing "McFarland" since 2004. The budget is $17 million. Costner is repped by WME, One Talent Management and attorney Daniel Grigsby.
