Kevin also said, “I have no nostalgic look at the past, no unrealistic view of the world. But I know how hard it is to make a good film. Nobody wanted "The Dances with Wolves" or "Bull Durham". Although it is not a blockbuster, there is someone who likes this film, which shows him in twenty years, his children. That makes it successful for me.” And also: “It is for me an opportunity to share something that really touched me. If we were friends, would you tell me about it when you read a really great book. So it goes with me when I read a great script, I immediately felt that I would share it with other people.”

The following are quotes from Kevin in articles that are no longer available online.
January 2005: In an interview at Sundance for The Upside of Anger - About his future, Costner would only say, "I've got a plan," which he followed with a sly grin. "When I think of the next five years, I think of individual choices.... I'm looking to stay independent," he said. He said he has always strayed from replaying the same, old characters in movies, and points out that he turned down offers of big paydays to make sequels to films like "The Bodyguard."

From a Moviehole.net interview dated February 2005 – “I also know that outside my own family I need to conquer some things. I am a boy and I need to make my mark. I do that in movies and other ventures, so I try to live a very full life. I know most of it doesn't mean anything other than who is going to hold your hand during your last breaths." And “I like the experience in the dark, that we continue to go to. I mean, the world still is evolving and changing so rapidly, we know what that's like, but still every one of us still find ourselves in a theatre….there's many people who still go to the theatre, to sit in the dark, and watch a movie and they're still looking for something to change them, some fresh air, to feel some light. So, people that go to the movies feel strongly, and I feel strongly when I make them."
