‘Kevin Costner Performing Arts Center’ in development…..

According to the article by Michel Cicero, at the following link:
http://www.vcreporter.com/cms/story/detail/build_it_and_they_will_come/7774/
”The Museum of Ventura County (formerly the Ventura County Museum of History and Art) plans to announce next week a heretofore undisclosed aspect of its expansion plan. Thanks to a generous donation from Ventura’s favorite son, along with some hefty underwriting by music management bigwig Fitzgerald-Hartley, the museum will begin breaking ground for the Kevin Costner Performing Arts Center (KCPAC), phase three of its expansion project, in late 2012. The $5 million KCPAC will feature a 1,000-seat auditorium with an ample, Broadway-style stage and state-of-the-art audio visual technology, as well as a partially covered outdoor stage with surrounding native gardens and a 200-seat cinema, which Costner has hinted at using for a film festival a la Sundance……Costner was unavailable for comment at press time but in a statement issued by the museum, he expressed his delight at being able to make such a substantial contribution to art and culture in his beloved hometown……it’s been decided that the old Mayfair Theater, which was torn down in 2004…..will be reborn, to the extent that it can be, as the KCPAC’s cinema. The original Mayfair was built in 1940 and designed by renowned cinema architect S. Charles Lee. The Mayfair’s marquee, which has spent the last six years wasting away in the parking lot of an abandoned motel, will be restored and incorporated into the exterior design of the structure. All efforts will be made to accurately reproduce the original design, including the lobby, while keeping with modern building standards. It turns out Costner remembers the Mayfair fondly and was deeply saddened to learn of its fate. Once quoted as saying he was capable of making a difference in the life of anyone he was involved with, the actor is proving it true where his relationship with the city of Ventura is concerned……The city, along with museum staff, plans to disclose further details and artist renderings by late summer. Kevin Costner promises to stay involved in the process and to be present for the groundbreaking ceremony.“ For more detail see the article at the link above.
