Brad Richason says, “I decided to check my prejudice, open my mind, and give Costner’s musical endeavor a fair try. Doing so turned out to be a rewarding surprise. While Untold Truths doesn’t forge any new molds, it does successfully capture a solid country-rock sound. As lead singer, Costner comes across a bit like Mark Knopler crossed with Joe Cocker. There’s a nice grit in Costner’s tone that gives texture to a limited but effectively used range. Matching the lyrical content, Costner’s vocals are delivered with a direct, plainspoken sentiment free of embellishment. All in all, Costner comes across with as a confident vocalist singing in service to the song.
