Molly's Game by Norman Wilner September 8, 2017 Excerpt: Chastain makes speeches. Elba makes speeches. Kevin Costner, who plays Molly’s demanding father, has a really good one towards the end. Sorkin keeps things moving at a good clip – though interestingly, he prefers sit-downs to walk-and-talks

TIFF Review: Jessica Chastain Absolutely Owns Aaron Sorkin’s ‘Molly’s Game’ By Mike Ryan September 8, 2017 Excerpt: Also, we get a pretty great performance by Kevin Costner as Molly’s father — a father with whom Molly has a complicated relationship — that leads to a pretty nifty payoff near the end of the film. (Is anyone better at playing an earnest father these days than Costner?)

Molly’s Game is proof that Aaron Sorkin directs exactly like he writes By Bryan Bishop September 10, 2017 Excerpt: What’s it really about? There are a lot of themes kicking around in Sorkin’s script, several of which are handily spelled out in one particularly amusing scene where Molly’s psychologist father (Kevin Costner) gives her several years worth of “accelerated therapy” in one conversation.

'Molly's Game': Film Review | TIFF 2017 By Todd McCarthy September 8, 2017 Excerpt: Molly is hard as nails — her tough-minded father (Kevin Costner, in fine form) has seen to that.

Toronto Film Review: ‘Molly’s Game’ by Peter Debruge September 8, 2017 Excerpt: Remember, he’s a shrink, and in the space of a few minutes, Costner manages to blow her mind, delivering the single most dazzling case of on-screen psychotherapy ever witnessed. As he puts it, “I’m gonna give you the answers.” And he does. And in that moment, as in the brilliant rooftop scene at the end of “Steve Jobs” when the Apple innovator recognizes his daughter as his greatest creation, Sorkin shows his cards, making the movie about something we really care about: human reconciliation, not getting rich, or defending one’s honor.

'This is a movie hero I want to write about:' Aaron Sorkin on Molly's Game by CBC September 9, 2017 Excerpt: Bloom - was granted a 48-hour pass to visit Canada for the movie's premiere at TIFF. It was the first time she or her family saw the movie, which was shot in Toronto and co-stars Idris Elba, Kevin Costner and Michael Cera. "The decided that they wanted to experience it as moviegoers: 'What's this really like, to sit in a movie theatre and watch this?'" said Sorkin. "After the movie they were as emotional and effusive as can be, both Molly and her father. For me, if that's all that had happened, it would have been sufficient."

‘Molly’s Game’ Review: Jessica Chastain Gives Another Dynamite Performance [TIFF] by Chris Evangelista September 10th, 2017 Excerpt: The script gives Molly some daddy issues, courtesy of her demanding pop played by Kevin Costner. Costner is quite good in the part, and the film gives him a big emotional moment near the end that would’ve been perfect had Sorkin’s script squandered it by adding some very heavy-handed junk about how Molly has done everything in her life as a way of trying to control strong men.

Toronto Film Festival spotlights fascinating women By Kevin Lally Sep 10, 2017 Excerpt: Kevin Costner gets a poignant late scene as her hard-driving father (though a friend of mine observed that it’s a case of Sorkin once again having a character “mansplain” to a woman.)

Sorkin said he spoke with Bloom after the Toronto screening. “She decided and they decided that they wanted to experience it as movie-goers,” Sorkin said. “After the movie, they were as emotional and infusive as can be. Both Molly and her father, for me, if that’s all that had happened, it would have been enough.”

Aseem Chhabra‏ @chhabs tweeted: Replying to @mojorant @jes_chastain And @idriselba is equally good as @jes_chastain. Also loved #KevinCostner in a smaller supporting role (Posted September 14th)
