Film crew brings Hollywood excitement to town of Melrose By MTN News September 28, 2017 MELROSE - The small town of Melrose south of Butte is getting a little taste of Hollywood this week as the setting of a television series. Crews were in town Wednesday to film a scene for an upcoming show being filmed for the Paramount Network called "Yellowstone," which stars Kevin Costner. A portion of Interstate 15 South near Melrose was closed Wednesday and Thursday as the crew filmed a chase scene for the series. Locals say it’s interesting watching the television crew work. “You know, they're surprisingly just common folks like everybody else. They have a job to do like you and I and they're the same as we are,” said Tony Wagner, who owns the Sportsman Motel in Melrose. During filming I-15 traffic is being redirected to the frontage road between Divide and Melrose. The show "Yellowstone" is expected to premiere in the summer of 2018.

Kjirstin Youngberg commented: Got to work on the Series Yellowstone last night, and sit just a few feet away from Kevin Costner. Not one of my faves in all his films, but I did enjoy his work in Field of Dreams, JFK and Hidden Figures. Watching him was interesting. I think I heard there were 473 extras on set last night. (Another number was 443.) He was very kind to the crowd, acknowledging us with a wave, and even speaking with one of the 16 year-old boys who was a major fan. (This is not done; extras never speak to the talent.) After their brief exchange, his family, who was also there, and everyone around them, gave a huge whoop and holler. It was fun to watch. The Utah Film Commission commented: Casting Directors Kelly Hunt and Tracy Dixon are holding a Free open casting call to meet and greet those interested in working on the Series, “Yellowstone.” Those who are selected to work on the project as extras will be paid. Shooting has already begun and the production is looking to hire thousands of locals to work as extras on the Series through December. The casting call will be open to men and women of all ethnicities, ages 16 or older. The open call will be rain or shine.
